MacPhail’s pit

Yang satu kelas denganku... masih ingat cerita ini... ini kuceritakan di depan kelas waktu kelas 3 smt.1. Oke! Silahkan dibaca sendiri...

MacPhail’s pit

Many years ago, a man named MacPhail lived in a great stone houses with his wife, his son, his son’s wife, and their only child, a 13 years old. The young lass broke their heart when she was born mute, but she had never given them any other cause to grieve.
When MacPhail died, his body was laid out in the spare bedroom of the house, dressed in all his tartan finery. His son drove away to gather his friends and make arrangements for the burial, leaving the three women in the houses to keep watch.
When the moon shone bright, the women heard a noise in the room where the body lay, followed by a dreadful shriek. The young girl, who had never spoken a word in her life, cried out, “Granny! Granny! Grandfather is up, and he is coming to get you!”
The old women jumped out of bed and ran into the hall just in time to see her dead husband stomping in her direction. She ran back into the bedroom and piled all the furniture againts the door. The corpse threw his weight againts the door, but couldn’t move it. He fell to his knees and began to dig.
He dug all through the night hours with his powerful hands, creating a tunnel under the door frame. Finally the hole was big enough for him to pass through. His wife screamed in terror as his head and shoulders emerged from the floor.
Just then, the first rays of the sun shone through the window. The rooster who had been sleeping in the rafters woke and crowed three times. Old MacPhail collapsed into his tunnel, as dead as a doornail.
When young MacPhail came home later that day, his wife and mother were too shocked to speak, but his daughter couldn’t stop talking about what had happened. He found his father’s body in the pit he had dug, his hands covered with dirt and scratches.
They buried MacPhail the next day, but his spirit still lives in the hole he dug underneath the doorway. No one has ever been able to fill it. If you visit the ruins of that ancients houses, you can see MacPhail’s pit for yourself.
